I grew up in Chicago but found myself pulled to the archaeological sites of Greece as a fledgling adult. After attending Brandeis University to work on a Ph.D., I taught cultural anthropology at Landmark College, a remarkable school nestled in the rolling hills of southern Vermont. Seeking to clear the decades-old New England permafrost from my lungs, I moved to the humidity-infused interior of Florida. Sweaty Gainesville, home to the University of Florida, is where I lay my head .
I've been writing since I was a child. My first book, Faith Cummings Wants to Move, was written on a 1960s Olympia Monica Typewriter that my mom picked up at a 1980s house sale. Since then, I've gravitated toward both historical fiction and narrative non-fiction inspired by the weekly dinners hosted by my immigrant grandparents in their Chicago apartment and my years as a professor of cultural anthropology.
Check out my blog for stories and photos about writing, my love of all things artifactual, and my fascination with the flora and fauna of the South. These days, you can also find me posting quips about Antisynthetase Syndrome--a most sexy disease for a most sexy person.
